Art Exhibition «Ukraine Is Like An Aquarium In The Sea» In Chicago

30.11.2022

From 18 to 20 November 2022, the Ukrainian Cultural Center, Chicago, USA hosted an exhibition of contemporary Ukrainian art "Ukraine is like an aquarium in the sea" as part of the art project "We and World" of the Kozytskyi Charity Foundation.

The name of the exhibition was inspired by the well-known expression “Ukraine is like an aquarium in the sea”, which belongs to the New York group of Ukrainian immigrant poets, who described their unique position in the American space in this way. The exhibition "Ukraine as an aquarium in the sea" appeals to the uniqueness and "some isolation" of Ukrainian contemporary art, from the world's "cultural ocean", which we are now fully beginning to learn and discover. The phenomenon of Ukrainian culture today is the work of artists from different generations, who, despite Russian military strikes, sirens and uncomfortable work in unsuitable shelters, create their masterpieces, which are then donated to charity.

The exposition presents 50 works of 28 well-known honored and young promising Ukrainian artists, sculptors, ceramists.

As a result, during the three days of the exhibition, 26 works of Ukrainian art were successfully sold, including 21 paintings and 5 sculptures.

The accumulated funds will be used for prostheses for Ukrainian women who suffered as a result of the Russian-Ukrainian war and educational scholarships for students from Ukraine's hot spots.

Location: Ukrainian Cultural Center, CHICAGO, USA, address: 2247 W CHICAGO AVE, CHICAGO, IL 60622.
