Finally, the "We and World" project of the Kozitskyi Charity Foundation has crossed the Australian continent!
The Billich Art Gallery is located in the heart of Sydney, just steps away from the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, founded by the surrealist artist Charles Billich. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE GALLERY, works of other artists besides Ch. Billich are being showcased, specifically the exhibition of Ukrainian contemporary art titled "Emigrants and Their Broken Ways."
The exhibition "Emigrant and His Broken Ways" precisely explores the journey, reason, motive, and meaning of emigrant life. It speaks about the coexistence of two homelands in one heart, about the Ariadne’s thread, whose ball is located in the "family nest" in Ukraine.
Eighteen artists participated in the exhibition.
The opening of the exhibition was attended by:
Vasyl Myroshnychenco, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Australia;
Kateryna Argyrou, Co-Chair of the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO);
Charles Billich, Australian surrealist artist, founder of the Billich Art Gallery;
Karina Davidova, co-curator of the exhibition.
The exhibition opening was attended by over 60 art enthusiasts, and more than half of the exhibited works were sold. Among the guests were Leon Kamenev, John McMurtrie, Chris Barter; Roman Waschuk, Business Ombudsman of Ukraine, former Canadian Ambassador to Ukraine; Jason Collins, executive director of the Australia-EU Business Council; Consul-Generals of Greece and the Czech Republic; David Harding, Executive Director of Business NSW.
The exhibition is organized as part of the art project "We and World" by the Kozitskyi Charity Foundation. Since its establishment in March 2022, the Foundation has organized 34 exhibitions of contemporary Ukrainian art in 13 countries around the world.
The funds raised will go to the art therapy center at the Officers' House in Lviv.
