The Kozitskyi Charity Foundation has provided financial support for the production of Winged Lions, a Ukrainian historical drama whose filming began in Lviv in recent days.
Winged Lions is a historical drama miniseries set between 1914 and 1921, when Ukrainian lands became a battleground for national liberation, Ukrainian statehood, and the right of Ukrainians to determine their own future.
The project aims to tell Ukraine’s history through the stories of several families whose lives intertwine with events that transformed Ukrainian lands in the early 20th century. At the heart of the story are people forced to make difficult choices between family obligations, personal convictions, the weight of the past, and the pursuit of freedom.
Another key theme of the series is the development of the Ukrainian Galician Army’s (UHA) military aviation. This storyline offers a glimpse not only into the political and military events of the time, but also into the technological and organizational challenges Ukrainians faced in their struggle for independence.
This is the most ambitious film project of its kind to be undertaken in Lviv since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began. The film was selected as one of the winners of Tysiachovesna, a state-funded arts competition. The project is directed by Taras Dron, with Volodymyr Borodyanskyi and Perspektyvni Prybutkovi Proekty LLC serving as producers. The film has a total runtime of 312 minutes.
In addition to state funding, private partners, including the Kozitskyi Charity Foundation, are contributing to its production.
“This is a Ukrainian film that tells the true story of the sacrifice and resilience of the generations of Ukrainians who laid an important foundation for the country’s modern tradition of statehood. It is the very thing we are fighting for today. It is vital to dismantle the false narratives spread by the enemy,” said Zinoviy Kozitskyi, founder of the Kozitskyi Charity Foundation.
