"The Passions of Christ" exhibition at the Lviv National Philharmonic

20.03.2024

On March 19, 2024, the opening of the exhibition dedicated to the theme "The Passions of Christ" took place in the hall of the Lviv National Philharmonic. This event coincided with the Orthodox world, including the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, entering the period of Great Lent on March 18.

The exhibition visualizes the last three days of Christ's life. The exposition features 14 Stations of the Cross by world Masters. Each station was depicted by a different author from various periods of art history. Each of them was inspired by the leading theme for different reasons: some, having completed their academic education, found their way in creativity by revealing a dogmatic religious motif, while others did so to atone for their own sins…

The exhibition features works on religious themes by such masters as Giotto di Bondone, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, Antonio Ciseri, El Greco, Hans Memling, Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, Titian Vecellio, Mattia Preti, Pieter Bruegel, Raphael Santi, Hieronymus Bosch, Vasyl Kurylyk, Yuriy Soloviy, Fra Angelico, Rembrandt van Rijn, Cristóbal de Figueiredo, Albrecht Dürer.
